Have the dates been set for this? I'm assuming it's fall break again, so Oct 21-24?

Not alot of ativity on this site anymore.

But since the Clayton ride is an unoffical event, I suppose you could declare it any date you want.  Regardless, I will be there to ride.  Maybe no one else here wants to go?

I'd love to go and my husband would be in too!  He went last year and had a lot of fun.  Hopefully it will end up being earlier in Oct as my sister's wedding is the weekend after the one posted above (which of course means I'm tied up for two weekends.  lol).

I'm looking for a ride with fellow Okies as well. I'd love to know more about what this ride is all about. Is there more information on this anyplace?

It's an annual ride in SE Oklahoma in the Kiamichi Mt area, we all stay at the Clayton Lake campground, some people get there as early as Wed, but most roll in on Thurs and leave out on Sunday. It's not sponsored by anyone, but riders break up into small groups and head out each day, usually groups of 5 to 10 people are ideal to keep the dust down but I've been in larger groups and even smaller one's... if it's rained recently larger groups aren't as bad. It's good to have a GPS or two in each group so that it's easier to find your way back... I've led rides the past 2 years and I'm getting somewhat familiar with the common routes down there, but I like to try new areas every time I go. You get a 3 day pass for $10 or 15 I believe and camping is like $7/night. At the very minimum you'll need to carry tools and supplies with you to change a front and rear tire incase you get a flat, and someone will get a flat, you don't want to be that guy that doesn't have a tube and air and tools to change his own tires. I also carry misc tools/parts to deal with other common issues you might run into but that's up for you to decide. Camelback's are a must... oversize tanks are preferred but not entirely necessary. If you don't have a large tank you'll want to plan your routes where you can hit a gas station midday so that you don't run out.

This is all I can think of now, hopefully someone will post what the "official" dates are. :)

James Pratt has done this ride from the beginning. He's in Oregon right now on an adventure ride, so I'm sure when he gets caught up he'll post a date. In the past it has been on Fall Break, but sometimes he'll move it up a week or so.

It it happens, I'm in. So is my son Kagen. Last year we rode dual sports on one day, and the next we trailered to Talimina State Park and rode the INT trail on dirtbikes. We'll probably do the same thing this year for anyone that wants to come along.

We usually have this right around the 16th of October, which is my son Adam's birthday.  That is the day we have reserved with the campground.  I could contact them and see if we could do it the following week on fall break if that would be better for others, but would have to check with the campground first.  We normally reserve this a year in advance.

Dirtrider is correct, I have been spending what seems like most of the summer riding all over the darn country work on our Adventure Rider Magazine.  Rode out with Bill Dragoo this past week to the BMW International MOA rally (where he won the English Trials competition against a crap-load of riders) and today I am in Hood River, Oregon doing a story on two Mexican nationals who are riding the west coast kiteboarding.  They carry their kiteboards on their bikes and are hitting all the hot spots up and down the west coast and Baja.  One carries a dog with him.  Pretty cool and I am learning spanish!

Later this week Bill and I will be riding and camping in Idaho and Montana, then we hook up with the head honcho of BMW motorcycles USA and Jim Hyde with Rawhyde Adventures and do part of the Continental Divide trail.  I will be doing a story on the head guy of BMW actually out doing the adventure rider thing.

Pretty cool gig, huh?  I have to pinch myself!
